About Us

Hi, I am Colton Townsend. Founder and Co-Owner of New Creations Photography.

Who am I exactly? I am a barefoot, God-fearing, Appalachian. Raised in Chapmanville, WV, I saw the beauty of the people and mountains before I could even walk. This place has my heart and soul and has brought forth my love of music, story-telling, humanity, and so many other things that make me who I am. I now reside in Williamson, WV. I'm happily married to my beautiful wife, Kayla. We have two fur babies, Zeus and Jupiter. As far as hobbies go, it's photography, porch swingin' with some tunes on, or movie watchin'. We love our family, friends, art, food, and most importantly, relaxation.

So why photography? So, I remember my first camera. It was a waterproof Kodak that I used at around 7 years old to take photos underwater in my family's pool. I thought it was the bees-knees even though most of the developed shots were accidentals of my thumb or the ground. Still though, my first "session", so to speak, was an abstract and creative one. You'll see this very early influence in my work today. My grandfather shot portraits, sports, and nature on film. My mother attempted to photograph any waking moment of mine and my family's lives with whatever camera she could get her hands on. Then along came my sister, Ally, the pro. My greatest influence and my favorite critic. She started her photography journey after a bout with thyroid cancer at the young age of 16. An introvert by design, she poured love into any still image her Nikon snapped showing you did not need to speak to tell a story. I was a test subject, a model, an equipment holder, but most importantly, a fan of her art. I would venture to say that without her, my skillset and eye would be nowhere near the level that it is today.

Photography runs in my blood. I watch films for the shots more than the story. I may have my cell phone camera out constantly if my Nikon isn't with me. It allows me to be in the moment even though I'm capturing, what with each second, becomes the past. I do not limit myself to a style, a niche, or any category. I hope photography takes me as far and wide as God may have it. - Colt
